During his 20-year career, Sam Greene has led numerous restructuring, financing and M&A assignments for companies, creditors, acquirers, shareholders and other stakeholders across a wide array of industries, including retail and consumer, energy, power, natural resources, oilfield services, general industrial, chemicals, transportation, telecommunications and technology, gaming, healthcare, and financial institutions.

Notable transactions include:

  • Alcatel Lucent regarding a $2bn secured financing
  • Calpine Corp. regarding it’s $17bn restructuring
  • Avaya regarding it’s $8bn restructuring
  • EFIH creditors regarding the $42bn restructuring of Energy Future Holdings
  • Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan regarding the $6bn restructuring of Station Casinos
  • ResCap regarding it’s $15bn restructuring including the sale of its legacy mortgage portfolio to Berkshire Hathaway for $1.5bn and it’s servicing and origination platform to Ocwen for $3bn
  • The board of TRU Taj regarding the sale of the Toys R Us international assets
  • Terraform Power with regard to the bankruptcy of SunEdison and the sale of 51% to Brookfield at an implied enterprise value of $6.6bn
  • Chicago Bridge and Iron regarding it’s $6bn merger with McDermott
  • Apollo regarding its $800mm DIP loan to Westinghouse

Mr. Greene joined Centerview Partners in 2011 to establish its restructuring and debt advisory practice, which he co-heads. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Greene was a Managing Director and founding member at Miller Buckfire & Co. and a member of the financial restructuring group of its predecessor, Wasserstein Perella & Co., which he joined in 1997.

Mr. Greene is a member of several industry trade organizations including the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Turnaround Management Association and is a frequent lecturer on restructuring topics. Mr. Greene is a founder of New Leaders at New York Presbyterian Hospital, a member of the New York Weill Cornell Council, the National Council of the American Enterprise Institute and the Ambassadors Council of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania as well as a member of the board of Public Prep Charter School Network and Team Rubicon.

Mr. Greene received a B.A. (with honors) from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
