Mr. Gurley joined Stephens in February 2018 as Managing Director. Prior to joining Stephens, Mr. Gurley was a Managing Director at Blackhill Partners, where he advised clients on mergers and acquisitions, complex restructurings and private placements of debt and equity securities. He regularly represents public and private companies, and advises their respective boards of directors and senior management on developing solutions for reorganizing capital structures and business operations. Mr. Gurley’s clients include companies in a range of industries, including energy, maritime, manufacturing and consumer products/retail. While at Blackhill he also advised private equity funds, distressed investors and commercial banks on a range of mergers and acquisitions and restructuring initiatives.

Notable transactions have included representing: Harvey Gulf in its $1.4 billion pre-packed Ch. 11 cases, reducing the company’s funded debt by over $900 million; an Ad Hoc Group of Bondholders of Sidewinder Drilling in its out of court restructuring led by MSD Capital; International Shipholding Corp. in its Ch. 11 restructuring sponsored by SEACOR Holdings; and Black Elk Energy in its confirmed Ch. 11 cases (the first of the Platinum Partners’ fraud cases).

Mr. Gurley has extensive experience as a testifying witness in Bankruptcy Courts, having been admitted as an expert witness in courts around the country on matters of valuation, sale process and feasibility.

Mr. Gurley received his B.A. from the University of Mississippi with concentrations in Psychology, History and English.
